We’re fighting a war on weeds...and losing. After years of mowing, cutting, cussing and spraying, there are more weeds than ever. Buckthorn scrub infests every roadside, fenceline and powerline easement. Garlic mustard is wiping out native wildflowers in forests throughout the Eastern US. The list of Old World plants wreaking havoc on the American landscape is growing. Our ecosystem is out of balance.

Every ecosystem, whether man made or natural, relies on checks and balances between plants and animals. Our native herbivores like deer and caterpillars either don’t recognize the weeds as food or can’t eat them because they aren’t adapted to digest the chemicals the plants produce to defend themselves. Without herbivores eating the weeds, our native plants don’t stand a chance in the plant-shade-plant jungles that are spiraling out of control. In other words...
